A branch of Kalachuris first settled in Hamirpur, before they relocated to Balia , occupying the Kopachit pargana under their leader Hemshah Kalachuri. They are called Karcholias, numbered around 10,985 in 1891[^46]. [^46]: H R Neville, Ballia: A Gazetter, pp. 70-71
